14 days to be freer in Jesus
Can a Christian be possessed? We are often asked this question.
First of all, the word "possessed" is not in the original text of the Bible. The word used is literally translated as "demonized." But why are we being asked this question?
- Because Christians are oppressed by darkness, despite all their efforts to stay close to Jesus.
- Because Christians experience authentic deliverance that changes their lives.
A classic misunderstanding is based on 2 Cor 5.17:
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. The idea would be that all my past is settled at my conversion to Jesus. In fact, the text speaks more of a process of new creation than of anything definitive. The new birth does not settle everything, as you may have noticed. You then need to forgive, to heal emotional wounds, even though God's love is poured into your heart by the Holy Spirit. Sickness does not leave your body at your conversion, even though healing is available. It's the same with demons... even though Jesus stripped them of their power on the cross!
