Sadhu Sundar SINGH (1889-1929)

As Sundar preached the Gospel to the crowd, the monastery guard burst in and arrested him. He was dragged to the edge of the city and unceremoniously thrown into a dry well. The air was putrid. Despair and loneliness overwhelmed him. Knowing he was condemned to certain death, Sundar leaned against one of the walls of the well and began to pray.
From his childhood, Sundar Singh sought the path to God, and he found the truth in Jesus Christ. At the age of 16, this former Sikh then became a Christian sadhu, or holy man, and devoted himself entirely to Christ at the risk of his life. Barefoot and equipped with a few rare possessions, he crossed the dangerous peaks of the Himalayas between India and Tibet on numerous occasions, sharing the Gospel with Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs - and even bandits.
During his travels, Sundar spent much time reading the Bible, praying, and meditating, believing that God was constantly on his side, even in the face of death. He also had the opportunity to preach in Asia, Europe and even America. Without ever raising his voice but boldly, this Indian saint touched thousands of lives through his words and deeds.
