If there is one event, which without being unanimous, brings to the landscape of the Christian Churches, it is the entry into dialogue of the Evangelical Churches with the Catholic Church. It is only in the last quarter of a century or so that relations have become natural both at the local level and at that of global organizations.
Between Catholics and Evangelicals, we are still in the discovery stage, in the early stages of an encounter where we perceive that the other is different from the image we had of him, but without knowing exactly how far this difference goes. It is therefore easy to find today, in the Evangelical world, enthusiasts and cautious ones, Churches that have engaged in institutional dialogue and others that do not consider this possible.
It is in this context that the Free Faculty of Evangelical Theology of Vaux-sur-Seine devoted its 2001 conference to this question: Catholics and Evangelicals in Dialogue. The texts in the Debates section of this work come from these days.
But it seemed useful to propose documents on the dialogues between Catholics and Evangelicals in France and in the world. Those which are already old have been little distributed in France, others were not yet translated into French.
On such a subject, it is not a question of publishing definitive things, simply of bringing some stones to enlighten and perhaps enrich the reflection on the major question of relations between the Churches. It will be up to the reader to continue the work and form a conviction, and perhaps to participate personally in the next step.
The proceedings of a 2001 conference and documents, some of which have never been published in French, for intelligently thinking about dialogue between Catholics and Evangelicals.
