This tool, with no equivalent to date in French, presents the books and major biblical themes by showing how they fit into the overall landscape of the Bible, in its unity and diversity. Two hundred key themes are covered – such as creation, eschatology, Israel, Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God, salvation, suffering, wisdom, worship.
The work is divided into three parts. The first deals with major questions of introduction and method: for example how to interpret the Bible, how we move from the Old to the New Testament, what biblical theology brings to preaching, etc. In the second part, all the biblical books are approached, first by corpus (the Pentateuch, the historical books, the Prophets, wisdom literature, the synoptic Gospels, the Johannine writings, etc.) then individually. The theology and message of each book are presented, opening up an enrichment of the biblical reading and the reader's overall vision.
The third part covers, in one hundred and forty articles, the main biblical characters and the major themes, so as to show both the continuity and the originality of the biblical canon and its different parts.
Approximately one hundred and twenty authors, English-speaking and French-speaking, participated in the writing of this dictionary, making it an essential resource for the study of the Bible and theology.
