A war is underway. This war takes place between the God of heaven and the devil who is the prince of this world. Every believer is born into conflict, because the devil would like, if he could, every human being to be lost. Every believer is also born for conflict.
Every thought, word, or action of the believer advances either the kingdom of God or that of Satan. No thought, word or action is neutral. Second by second, minute by minute and hour by hour, each person is contributing through everything they do to the advancement of one of the two kingdoms.
Satan wants to do all the harm he can. He will attack anything he can attack; and when he attacks, he destroys everything he can. The believer therefore needs to be alert, to defend his territory and to fight in return against the devil. He must do it, otherwise he will suffer terribly, because the devil is on the offensive.
However, the believer need not worry and despair. He must confront the Enemy. He must confront the Enemy, not from a position of fear, but from a position of victory. We know from the Word that He who is in us is greater than He who is in the world. Leonard Ravenhill expressed this well when he said: "When Satan fell, he took with him a third of the heavenly army. Thus, to the Christian are opposed the world, the flesh and the devil, plus a third of that which was the heavenly host. For the Christian are the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and two-thirds of the heavenly host, plus the prayers of many friends and the unlimited promises of the unchangeable and indestructible Word of the Living God. The balance of power is greatly on the side of the saint. May we rise above our juvenile Christianity, so that, armed with the panoply of God and plundering the devil's territory, his satanic majesty must say: "Jesus, I know, and Paul I know, and Christians today are frightening me by discovering a lost secret of the Early Church: Prayer, faith and boldness covered in blood" . Although the balance of power is on the saint's side, the passive saint will soon discover that God will answer his prayers, but will not pray for him. All the saints must rise up and wage war against the Enemy, and fight even into the realm of darkness. They must not only fight a defensive war. They must attack the Enemy, if possible take the fight to hell.
I was attacked very severely by Satan while writing this book. It felt like all hell was rising against me not to write the book. I was near death while trying to finish this book. My wife and children were attacked throughout. It is only by the grace of God and the application of the things written in this book that we have reached this level of writing. As you read, take shelter under the blood of the Lamb.
There are areas of spiritual warfare that have deliberately not been touched. The reason is that either they have been covered in our books Deliverance from Demons and The Path of Spiritual Warfare, or they will be covered in the Overthrow of Principalities and Powers series.
