How can a young Church remain firm in its faith while living in expectation of Christ’s return? The two letters addressed by Paul to the Christians in Thessalonica address questions that still deeply touch the Christian life: perseverance, brotherly love, holiness, and hope.
In this commentary, François Bassin, Doctor of Theology, guides the reader through a careful study of the two epistles. He sheds light on the context in which they were written and helps readers understand Paul’s teachings on the life of the Church and the spiritual growth of believers.
Significant attention is given to the passages devoted to the return of Jesus Christ and Christian hope. Rather than focusing solely on chronological or prophetic questions, the commentary shows how the expectation of the Lord is linked to a concrete way of living: remaining faithful, progressing in love, and persevering through trials.
Accessible without requiring mastery of biblical languages, this work relies on the study of the text, its historical context, and the tools of exegesis to offer an in-depth understanding of the epistles.
A rich commentary for discovering or deepening one’s knowledge of the two letters to the Thessalonians and for reflecting on a faith lived out in faithfulness, hope, and the expectation of Christ.
