The Sower's Bible aims to make the biblical text easily understandable to the uninformed reader, and to allow those who are familiar with the Bible to appreciate in a new way the meaning and richness of its message. Fruit of the translation work of a committee of evangelical theologians and specialists in biblical translation, it offers readers a version of the biblical text that can be used both

  • to a first contact with the Bible,
  • reading and personal meditation,
  • to in-depth study,
  • and public reading.

The primary objective of the translation and revision team was to combine fidelity to the source texts and accessibility of the French text, by implementing the linguistic principles of translation by functional equivalence (or “dynamic translation”): making in today's French the meaning of the source texts, using the grammar and syntax of the current French language, and therefore without always reproducing the form of Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek.

Characteristics of the Sower's Bible:

  • A meaning rendered even more precisely and more intelligibly, in quality and accessible French.
  • Notes presenting other possible understandings of the biblical text, also formulated in a clear and careful manner.
  • Formulations based on the principle of functional equivalence, with a concern for conciseness and sobriety.
  • Respect for language registers: words which belong, in the original languages, to the religious register or to the secular register, are translated into French by words which belong to the same register.
  • A biblical glossary.
  • Seven color maps on eight pages.
  • A two-year reading plan.
