The disease of the world is this persistent individualism of the Self. It extends to all areas in which the Self exercises its activity. When the individual no longer takes the misery of the world as his own, when he focuses on his problems, when he only cares about himself without thinking of others, when his own existence comes before everything else, when ultimately he only seeks his fulfillment and happiness, he no longer knows how to recognize or measure the needs of others and of the world. Worse still, it multiplies and aggravates them. He becomes a dangerous parasite that threatens the Whole. An individual who lives this way cuts himself off from society as a whole; he is no longer conscious of the unity of reality. He has separated himself from global life and is heading towards ruin. And his very death will remain marked by his individualism. Unbeknownst to her, she will further spread deadly germs of infection.
