We all know people who spend a lot of time in their church, risking getting lost in it, and others who prefer not to hear about it anymore, for various reasons.
Disillusionment is part of it. It is all the more violent the greater the degree of illusion one has invested.
What if there were another way to understand this disillusionment, far removed from bitterness and rejection? What does it want to teach us?
Is it possible to have a relationship with the Church that is different from that of sweet illusion or bitter disillusionment?
To recount a rich but challenging journey, Marie-Christine Carayol, a cooperation facilitator, relied on writing workshops led by experienced writing workshop facilitator Michèle Ammovilli. Ten Christians from diverse backgrounds courageously took up the challenge, fully embracing the adventure.
Indeed, writing workshops are much less widespread in our church circles than praise, preaching, Bible sharing or even prayer.
It is an approach that deeply involves everyone. Through this adventure of collective and creative introspection, the participants were able to re-explore their relationship with their chosen family, the Church, where dreams, disillusionments, and resilience happily coexist, sometimes creating damaging confusion.
Because experiencing resilience is possible. Living and participating in the Church after being disappointed is also possible, under certain conditions. These texts, illustrated by the talented Yann Sujet, will undoubtedly help you discern what those conditions are.
