In the Epistle to the Galatians, the apostle Paul fights for the Gospel.
Legalistic Jewish Christians had infiltrated the churches established by Paul in Galatia, where they claimed to the new Christians that they had to follow the Old Testament law to be saved. Paul then wrote this epistle to encourage the Galatian Christians to live in the freedom brought by Jesus. He exhorts them to cling to the cross of Christ rather than to vain attempts to earn righteousness through their works.
In Galatians: Verse by Verse, Grant R. Osborne immerses us in the historical context of the first century and explains the issues that led Paul to write this epistle and how it applies to us today. The central message is that Christ, the Messiah, inaugurated a new era in the history of salvation. Through the new covenant in him, believers are justified by faith alone, then empowered to live in harmony with the Holy Spirit.
