Troubled. Confused. Undecided. After three years with Jesus, there was still so much the disciples didn't understand. They were shocked to learn that someone in their inner circle was going to betray the Lord. And perhaps even more so by Jesus' prediction: their friend Peter, so proud and courageous, was going to deny him, and Jesus' death was imminent. It was unthinkable.
What was Jesus going to say to them? What consolation was he going to bring them?
Leaning towards his disciples, Jesus answered their questions, taught them, and prayed for them. In these final words of teaching, he wanted to remind them of his love and faithfulness. Despite what was to come, the situation was not beyond his control, and the days ahead would unfold according to his sovereign plan.
