Evangelicals, in the controversy that long opposed them to the "modernists," have developed the habit of placing massive emphasis on the divinity of Christ. However, although legitimate, the passionate defense of this cause has led many Christians to lose sight of the humanity of Christ.
The author shows how this forgetting of an otherwise undisputed truth creates an imbalance in the Christian life. For lack of having meditated on the Lord's humanity, Christians themselves end up neglecting their own humanity. They then take refuge in a disembodied piety, far removed from the teaching of the New Testament. This often takes the form of an ambiguous attitude toward the intellect, the will, or feelings.
This book leads us to a double rediscovery: that of Jesus, God incarnate, and that of the human being, the image of God.
