Collection: Heroes of Faith
“Lord, may their eyes be blinded,” André prays in his heart, as two border guards approach his car. They ask him to get out of the vehicle. One of the guards opens his suitcase and begins to lift several shirts; there, in full view, is a pile of evangelical tracts. The palms of André's hands become sweaty. Anyone caught transporting such material would be immediately arrested.
Having become God's smuggler, Brother André was accustomed to risk and danger. As a young boy, the intrepid André joined the Dutch Resistance during the Nazi occupation. Later, as a young man looking for adventure, he fought in the Dutch East Indies. There, caught up in the spiral of violence, the hero transformed into an implacable warrior; the scenes of carnage plunged him into the abyss of despair drowned in alcohol. Redeemed by God, the Dutchman becomes a messenger of hope filled with audacity. He smuggles Bibles into countries with closed borders and equips persecuted Christians behind the Iron Curtain. Today, Brother André and the Portes Ouvertes organization continue to shine the light of Christ in dark places around the world.
