How to hear God's voice
Is it really you, Lord? is above all, the story of a young man with a big dream. It is also a book about the art of listening.
The most underestimated potential in this world is probably the energy of these millions of young people between sixteen and twenty-five years old who are eager to see a better world. It was when he was barely twenty years old that Loren Cunningham had a vision, that of waves of young people sweeping across the continents to announce the good news of salvation to this world in rebellion. What a challenge! Did this “dream” really come from God?
Today, Loren's vision has come to fruition into an international movement: Youth With A Mission. How did God act to bring the vision to fruition? He did this by leading Loren and his wife Darlene through a series of trials designed to strengthen them in listening and obedience. Loren made mistakes. Sometimes he acted too quickly, other times he took too long. Sometimes he disobeyed, but always he kept his dream.
This testimony from Loren's life teaches us a lot about the art of listening. As we desire God to use us, we must learn to discern His voice and then obey. This was the hardest part that prompted Loren and Darlene to cast off and head out to sea.
