God has given us the commandment to be holy, because he is holy... But there are many occasions when Christians give up, victims of this war waged by sin, which decimates the ranks, or at best, incites Christians to find a fragile truce, a meager and unsatisfactory compromise with sin, especially in its most difficult forms.
Why is holy living so rarely our experience? The fundamental problem we face is, according to the author, that Christians have failed to understand their own responsibility for sin. “If we sin,” he writes, “it is because we choose to sin and not because we are incapable of resisting. We are not defeated, we are simply disobedient.”
Whether you have long since begun this diligent search for real and lived daily holiness, or whether you have given little thought to this question until now, the principles expounded in this book will encourage and stimulate you to respond to this pressing call. of God, this commandment from which we cannot escape: “Seek sanctification, without which no one will see the Lord” (Heb 12.14).
