Ladd belongs to this generation of biblical scholars from the evangelical wing who are keen to enter into dialogue with the proponents of the historical-critical method. This is seen in his plan as well as in the details of his developments.

His plan takes into account the diversity of New Testament testimonies, a diversity which is, as we know, one of the hobbyhorses of recent criticism. In detail too, his arguments introduce points of view from so-called independent research.

We are so poor in French-language New Testament theology manuals that we are a priori delighted by any translation facilitating access to foreign works.
