Christian character is very important. The Lord Jesus is deeply concerned about character. His first goal is that all who know Him will be like Him in character. He put the Holy Spirit in every believer to form that character. Only those whose character conforms to that of the Lord Jesus can be considered fully sanctified.
If a person's life does not resemble that of the Lord Jesus, their service to Him will not be worth much. Many today speak of the Lord and even attempt to serve Him, but their character testifies against what their lips say. A preacher was said to be as evangelist as an angel, but twice as wicked as the devil. This is very tragic.
It is in God's plan that the Gospel preached by the lips, and the Gospel preached by the character, (by the life) become one Gospel, a presentation of the Lord of glory.
