Time is one of the most precious gifts that God has given to man. By giving people the gift of time, the Lord has reassured Himself that no one can consider themselves especially favored or especially disadvantaged. In His wonderful love, God gave the president of a populous nation and the simple street sweeper of that nation the same number of hours in a day: twenty-four hours.
The president did not receive a forty-eight hour day while the street sweeper received a twenty-four hour day. God expects the president to faithfully use the twenty-four hour day given to him to fulfill his presidential responsibilities, just as He expects the street sweeper to use the twenty-four hour day which was given to him to faithfully carry out his tasks as a sweeper.
If God has given people the same amount of time for each passing day, how can we explain the fact that some people seem to accomplish a lot while others work so little? The difference is found in the way people use the twenty-four hours of each day that the Lord gave them. Some sleep four hours and carefully invest the remaining twenty hours in the priority things in their lives, and thus make an impact on the world. Others sleep eight hours each day, then spend the other eight hours doing nothing because they are plagued by indecision, and the last eight hours are invested in useless things.
These two categories of people, having twenty-four hour days, invest them differently, and therefore, will reap different results in their lives. I was privileged to have been raised by a father who knew the importance time and who therefore used it wisely. When I surrendered the master key of my life to the Lord Jesus on October 1, 1966, the Word of God became alive in me and the godly principles in which I was raised (including the Use of Time), became alive in me, and the Lord had helped me begin to learn how to use time. Currently, (1989) I invest an average of 16 hours per day in serving the Lord while being a college instructor.
My goal is that one day I can provide 18 hours of useful service to God and man. Therefore, I am only a student in the “School of Time Use”. Some of the principles shared with you in this book have been and are being applied in my life to benefit. My prayer is that they will be a source of blessing to you. In writing this book, I have endeavored not just to give you some formula or techniques to apply in your life. Time is a gift from the Lord, and the correct use of time cannot be separated from a deep and growing knowledge of Him. To the extent that this book will help you draw closer to the Lord, know Him, and to use the time to accomplish His will, I will consider that its writing will have served the interest of the Father and that is what, for me, is wonderful. May God bless you abundantly.
