We are in the Middle East, in the first quarter of the 21st century. This is where a three-thousand-year-old conflict is taking place which is becoming more and more dangerous between the children of Israel and the sons of the East, the children of Ishmael.
All eyes are focused on this bloody Middle East where, every day, because of the never-ending conflict, innocent lives are taken and world peace is threatened. This will be the case as long as individuals and nations allow themselves to be seduced by Satan the devil, the cold, murderous and tyrannical father of lies (Jn 8:44). But the glorious certainty of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ gives us assurance that soon peace will reign over all the earth. It will be a tangible manifestation of the reign of the Prince of Peace (Is 9.5-6; 2.4; PS 72.7).
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God (Mt 5:9).
However, when we observe what is happening around us, in the Middle East, between the children of Israel and the sons of Ishmael, the big questions come back: is peace possible in this disrupted world or is war and violence reign supreme? This work will examine the relations between Israelis and Palestinians with emphasis on the following aspects: the conflicting origins of these two peoples descended from Abraham, according to biblical data; the chaotic and fascinating evolution of their relationships; the dynamics of the interests involved; the various interventions of the international community and their results; the extent of the challenges in the global situation.
Yes, peace remains possible. But it will become a strong and active reality only when hearts are transformed, changed, touched by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace.
