What is the role of the Christian and the Church in French-speaking African society? How can we contribute to social stability for the well-being of every citizen and to the development of the citizen, body and soul?
The authors of this book seek to encourage African Christians to reflect on these important questions in light of the political instabilities that are sweeping through Africa. They provide details on certain key concepts and terms such as democracy, politics, and theology. They also refer to history to help understand the current political situation in Africa.
It is by knowing and understanding better the political situation of his country that each believer and citizen will be able to commit to building society in truth and justice, in holiness and consecration.
The attitude of the Church in Africa towards politics in the context of democracy can be explained by three causes: (1) the influence of secularism, a principle of Western culture, (2) the behavior of the first generation of African Christians involved in politics around independence, and (3) the misinterpretation of certain texts of the New Testament. The contributors to the production of this work have taken care to share their thoughts on several aspects of this topical theme. Should the Church in Africa continue to be disinterested in politics through stigmatization? Should it engage in politics without a critical understanding of the context? This book provides some answers to questions about the relationship between Church, politics and democracy. It calls on the entire Church in Africa to value its status as an enlightener of consciences and challenges individual Christians to engage in politics in a responsible and consistent manner because of their dual citizenship.
