This book is written for those who have received the Lord Jesus as their Savior and Lord. It is not written for unbelievers, that is, for those who have not yet been “born again” by the Spirit of God. Normally, such a book, written for believers, would be absolutely useless, for the Apostle clearly teaches that "Whoever sins transgresses the law, and sin is the transgression of the law." Now, you know, Jesus appeared to take away sins, and there is no sin in him. Whoever abides in Him does not sin; whoever sins has not seen him, nor known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, as He Himself is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil sins from the beginning. The Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil. Whoever is born of God does not practice sin, because the seed of God remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:4-9).
However, we do know that a member of the Church in Corinth had committed adultery and was placed under discipline. We also know that David, who was a man after God's own heart, fell into the same sin. The Apostle Paul's numerous warnings to believers against adultery and fornication leave the reader of the epistles in no doubt that he was warning believers about something that could happen in their lives. He wrote as one who knew that a converted person could fall into the sin of adultery and fornication.
It is commonly known that in our generation, some of God's servants, who no doubt truly believed in the Lord Jesus, have fallen into adultery and fornication. The Lord Jesus decided to expose the sins of some, but not those of others.
So a believer can be tempted, yield to temptation, and commit adultery or fornication, or both. If you want to be honest, you will recognize that you almost fell into adultery either in thoughts, words or deeds, or you really fell into it either in thoughts, words or deeds. You might even want to recognize that, without God's grace, you could at any moment fall into any of these sins. This makes this book useful for you. You could be ten years old or sixty years old; you still need to read it prayerfully, if not for your own needs, then at least with the aim of helping other believers.
Many may say, “Thank God I have never actually committed adultery since I believed in the Lord Jesus.” We thank the Lord for all of these. We can only expect that. However, the Lord Jesus is looking for those of whom He can say: “This one has never committed adultery in thought since he believed.” » I hope He can say that about you.
Maybe He can't say that about you yet. Our prayer is that as you read this book you will know deliverance from the Lord from the sin of adultery and fornication and that deliverance will be in thought, word and deed. We pray that you enter into this deliverance through a crisis and maintain it through the process of abiding in Him moment by moment.
Since no adulterer or fornicator will spend eternity outside of hell, we implore you to take this message seriously and act accordingly for your eternal well-being. The Lord Jesus, the Unchangeable Deliverer, is near to deliver you and enable you to walk in deliverance for the rest of your life until He returns.
