The five biblical steps to sustainable growth
In the Bible, God is presented to us as a gardener, a cultivator or a winemaker who takes care of his plantations. The olive tree, the fig tree or the vine are images used to describe the people of God, whom he takes pleasure in seeing grow.
In the Old Testament, God plants his people in the promised land so that they will bear fruit there. But the expected result does not happen. What bitter fruits! In the New Testament, on the other hand, the people of God are planted in Christ: the vine can now bear abundant fruit...
The personal journey of the believer in Christ is marked by five stages: seed, rooting, steady growth, ripening and, finally, fruit. These are the stages that mark life in Christ, from its beginning to its end. The factors that ensure this development are the knowledge of God and his grace (2 Peter 3.18).
Growing in Christ aims to describe the progress of the believer. Readers will thus be able to check if and how they are growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
