A History of the Christian Brothers Churches in French Canada 1926-2010

The history of the Christian Brothers Churches in French Canada, and more particularly in Quebec, is marked by several periods of change. The author relies on various documents of historical value to highlight the events and people who marked the work of the Brothers movement in the province of Quebec. He adds to this his own memories that he accumulated during the many years that he and his wife spent working in Quebec.

This book aims to strengthen the faith and courage of the workers of today and tomorrow who serve the Lord in the Beautiful Province. May the knowledge of the setbacks, as well as the successes of the past, be profitable to them. May they remember these leaders who transmitted the Word of God to them, and may they persevere in imitating their faith. May they forever submit to the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ who said, “I will build my Church.” To him be the glory!

Richard E. Strout (MA religious studies, Bishop's University, 1986) arrived in Quebec with his family in 1970, after being recommended to the work by three assemblies of Brothers located in the United States. For more than twenty years, he held various positions at Bethel Bible Institute, including director, dean of academic affairs and librarian. From the beginning, he was actively involved in the work of the Brothers' assemblies in French Canada, both at the local and provincial level. Richard and his wife have four children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
