The evangelical movement is characterized, in particular, by its affirmation of the authority of the Bible and its missionary activity. Yet, it is striking how few French-speaking biblical scholars and evangelical theologians have written on mission. The result of a collaborative effort by evangelical biblical scholars and missiologists, this second publication from the Evangelical Missiology Network for French-speaking Europe (REMEEF) aims to fill this gap by reflecting on the Bible and mission.
This work comprises three parts. The first develops the main features of a biblical theology of mission, by asking what the Bible says about mission. The approach involves a history of theological reflection, then methodological reflections, before addressing the data from the Old Testament, the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Epistles.
In the second part, the theological reflection will be more systematic. It addresses the relationship between the Gospel, mission and the reign of God, as well as the relationship between Church and mission, then the notion of "integral mission" and the articulation of mission and cultures, and finally the attitude to adopt towards other religions.
In the third part, we will find three texts not published in French by Christopher Wright, coordinator of the Theological Working Group of the Lausanne movement, explaining the famous motto of this movement: "The whole Gospel, through the whole Church, to the whole world".
