His life and theology – Calvinist theologian, politician, journalist
Kuyper was convinced that all areas of life on earth were subject to the sovereignty of God. No longer 1.67 m tall, he gave his all for the cause of the Church, the body of Christ, as well as for the Kingdom of God, leading his own life for the glory of God (…)
He was not only a talented preacher, but also a founder of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands, transforming the state churches which were then under the influence of theological liberalism. By disapproving the French Revolution in its humanist foundation, Kuyper became leader of the Anti-Revolutionary Party, succeeding Groen Van Prinsterer, his political mentor. Furthermore, he worked as a deputy before being elected senator for life.
When he became prime minister, Kuyper put Calvinist policies into practice (…) Moreover, he made great efforts to teach the practical meaning of glorifying God in life, to enable people to grasp and understand theology and Calvinist doctrine. Kuyper was truly a great man that God brought into being since the death of Calvin in the 16th century.
Thanks to his efforts, the Netherlands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was saved from socialism, and once again became a country with a Christian foundation.
