These messages arise from ministry in India between August and September 1999. They are also the result of a commission from the Lord and a critical meeting with Brother Varada Raj. The Lord had asked me to teach on prayer and to reach not only small groups as I had previously done, but to also reach multitudes. I had met Varada Raj within a few days during some meetings during which I ministered in India in 1998. After this meeting, he gave himself completely to planning, organizing and mobilizing people. meetings in the state of Tamil Nadu, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
We have never prepared so seriously for an event as we did for the trip and ministry in India. The unusual prayer and fasting had been undertaken by the churches associated with us in Cameroon and by several of my helpers and co-workers. And despite opposition from the enemy, the journey and the ministry had been made possible.
We were under the burden of stirring up believers and churches in India to prayer. The lack of prayer of many leaders, the ignorance of many believers and the helplessness of the church in India were our burden. We were troubled by the weak impact of Christian witness after 2000 years in India despite the sacrificial and faithful witness of many Indian missionaries and leaders.
We are convinced that prayer is the missing yet critical weapon for impact for Jesus Christ in India, we want to inspire leaders to pray and teach others to pray.
We long to see several schools of prayer and an Indian university of prayer where men and women who desire to learn to pray can be taught by men who themselves pray. This will herald and usher in a new day in India and other nations. We want to catalyze a prayer movement in the nation that will advance the interests of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In some cities 25,000 people were gathered to be taught for four days, 5,000 in others, and 3,000 in still others. Prayer classes were given to an audience of Christian leaders and teachings involved prayerful responses from the audience during long hours or days of retreat. And God was present. Over the course of one night, an estimated population of over 5,000 people responded to the gospel being preached. Many sick people were healed and some were delivered from demons. We expected great things from the Lord.
We are at the dawn of a great revival, a powerful movement of God throughout the world and nations. New perspectives and incomparable opportunities are on the horizon. We must cooperate with God through prayer by mobilizing others to pray. We pray and publish this book to stimulate and move men, women, believers, leaders, churches to pray abundantly and intelligently. And His name will be hallowed; His kingdom will come and His will will be done on earth AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. Glory be to His name.
