Why was Jesus crucified? What is the meaning of his death? Analyzing chapter 27 of the Gospel according to Matthew, which chronicles the trial and execution of Jesus, Pierre-Sovann Chauny seeks to underline the immense significance of this event: by suffering the worst injustice, by his very death, Jesus accomplished the salvation of all who believe in him. By his death, he bears our condemnation for us, reconciles us to God and overcomes death for us – if we believe in him.
