Today the evangelical churches are talking about them, are multiplying, and are sometimes looking for their roots and their anchoring in the Reformation of the 16th century.

Alfred Kuen immersed himself in historical research into the origins of various evangelical movements. Indeed, he was convinced that they were not a recent invention, but simply put into practice a Christianity inspired by the New Testament model of the Church.

Two volumes address decisive moments in the journey of the Church: the first, published under the title Witnesses to the faith in the first centuries , describes the life of the first Christians; the second, this volume, deals with the Anabaptists (the evangelical wing of the Protestant Reformation) and the birth of free churches almost everywhere in Europe. We discover fascinating and sometimes terrible stories, still little known, but which deserve to be heard. This also gives us keys to understanding the evangelical movement as it currently presents itself.

Alfred Kuen was able to emphasize both the profound unity and the plurality of these movements in their evolution. This basis still allows the different evangelical Churches today to experience mutual goodwill in the midst of their diversity, as evidenced by the fine efforts of occasional groupings and common projects.
